Completed last year, this project involved a rear extension and full kitchen re-design, creating a stunning open-plan kitchen that now opens directly onto the family garden. The result is a timeless yet practical space, designed around everyday family life, entertaining and future needs.
Before: An Outdated and Restrictive Kitchen
Before the renovation, the kitchen was tired, enclosed and no longer suited the family’s lifestyle. Limited storage, restricted worktop space and a layout that discouraged interaction made the room feel disconnected from the rest of the home.
The clients wanted a kitchen that felt open, sociable and practical — somewhere the family could cook, gather, do homework and entertain with ease.
After: A Painted Shaker Kitchen Designed for Modern Living
The completed kitchen features a Painted Shaker Linton door, chosen for its timeless appeal and ability to sit comfortably within a modern open-plan setting.
The colour palette plays a key role in the transformation. A soft, neutral Talpa forms the main cabinetry colour, while a rich Woodland Green accent adds depth and warmth — a perfect combination for an open-plan kitchen that connects directly with the garden.
Large glazed openings now flood the space with natural light, strengthening the connection between kitchen, living space and outdoors.
Worksurfaces & Practical Design Details
Silestone Halcyon quartz work surfaces were selected to complement the cabinetry while offering durability for busy family life. Substantial worksurface runs ensure there is ample space for:
- Food preparation
- Family meal times
- Entertaining larger groups
A pop-up socket within the island provides discreet access to power — ideal for small appliances, phone charging or homework time.
Appliance Selection Tailored to the Family
Appliance choices were driven entirely by the clients’ requirements. We worked closely with them to assess how the kitchen would be used day-to-day and ensure the right balance of functionality and performance.
Key features include:
- Hob positioned within the island, allowing the main cook to engage easily with children and family life.
- Warming drawer, perfect for busy schedules and entertaining.
- Tall integrated fridge and freezers, ideal for a weekly shop for a growing family.
- Two integrated dishwashers, making hosting effortless — particularly during Christmas and larger gatherings.
The kitchen also includes a Quooker hot tap with Cube system, providing instant boiling water as well as chilled still and chilled sparkling water on demand.
