So often in home renovation projects with so many decisions to be made, lighting can easily be overlooked. It plays such a key role in any room of the house to create the right ambience, to provide task lighting and to show the things around it to their best advantage. It’s so important you get it right for your project to be everything you dreamed it to be.
Make sure it’s near the top of your list when going through your initial planning stages and afford it the time it deserves, the rewards will be well worth it. So often we hear stories of clients being met with an electrician on the morning they start on your project build asking where you want your lights and sockets…. Panic ensues and you make hasty, split-second decisions that can’t be reversed!
Focusing particularly on the kitchen, look at ‘zoning’ your space to enable you to regulate the light as required. Ceiling lighting should always be dimmable, as lighting designer Asa Fjellstad once said ‘not to have a dimmer switch on your lighting is like having a loudspeaker with only one setting’. With many households opting for the spacious open plan kitchen/diner leading out onto the garden, natural daylight will play a big part during the day but as we go into the winter months and darker days, consideration needs to be given as to how best you light this space.

All taking into consideration natural daylight and where the sun rises and sets in relation to your new space. A lighting lay-out is included on all our floor plans to ensure that your electrician has the information they need when they need it and you won’t be needing to make any compromises on your dream kitchen!
